घूमने का सर्वोत्तम समय
March to June and September to November for pleasant weather; Mahashivratri is the principal festival.
Baijnath honours Shiva as Vaidyanath, the healer of ailments, and is believed by devotees to grant good health and relief from disease. Its association with the legend of Ravana's devotion gives it a distinctive local tradition. As one of the finest surviving Nagara temples of the region, it is of great historical and architectural importance. Mahashivratri is celebrated here with special fervour.
Built in 1204 CE by two local merchants, Ahuka and Manyuka, the Baijnath temple is a superb example of early Nagara (North Indian) architecture, its stone spire and finely sculpted exterior remarkably well preserved. The sanctum enshrines a swayambhu lingam worshipped as Vaidyanath, the divine physician, set against the backdrop of the Dhauladhar mountains. Local legend links the site to Ravana, who is said to have worshipped Shiva here and obtained great powers — a reason the town does not burn Ravana's effigy at Dussehra. The serene riverside setting and exquisite carvings make it one of Himachal's most beautiful temples.
