महत्व

Brijeshwari is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, sanctified by the falling of Sati's left breast, and is among the most important Devi shrines of the Kangra region. Its wealth and antiquity made it legendary across medieval India. The temple embodies the endurance of Shakti worship through centuries of upheaval. Navratri and Makar Sankranti draw large gatherings of devotees.

परिचय

The Bajreshwari (Brijeshwari) Devi temple in Kangra was once famed for wealth so immense that it drew repeated invasions, most notably by Mahmud of Ghazni in 1009 CE. Devastated again by the great Kangra earthquake of 1905, the present temple was rebuilt in the early 20th century in a robust, fortress-like form. The shrine is mentioned in ancient texts and remains a vibrant centre of Devi worship, especially during the Makar Sankranti and Navratri festivals when a symbolic butter fort (pinди) ritual is performed. Its long history of destruction and revival mirrors the resilience of faith in the region.
