महत्व

Chintpurni is one of the important Shakti Peethas, associated with the falling of Sati's feet/forehead and with the fierce goddess Chinnamastika. Its very name assures devotees that the mother dispels chinta — anxiety and worry — making it a shrine of comfort and wish-fulfilment. It forms part of the cluster of Himachal Devi pilgrimages undertaken together by the faithful. The tradition of tying sacred threads embodies the intimate bond between the mother and her children.

परिचय

Chintpurni, dedicated to Maa Chinnamastika, sits amid the wooded hills of Una district and is one of the busiest Devi shrines in North India. The sanctum enshrines a small sacred pindi (rounded stone) worshipped as the goddess, before which pilgrims tie and later untie threads as they make and fulfil their vows. The town around the temple bustles with pilgrims from Punjab, Haryana and beyond, especially during the great fairs. The setting, devotion and the promise of relief from worries give Chintpurni a warm and hopeful atmosphere.
