The Vindhyavasini temple at Vindhyachal near Mirzapur is one of the most important Devi shrines of the Ganga plains, its goddess believed to be the very form of Yogmaya who eluded Kamsa and chose to reside in the Vindhya hills. Pilgrims traditionally undertake the Trikon Parikrama, a circuit connecting the temples of Vindhyavasini, Ashtabhuja Devi and Kali Khoh, representing the three powers of the Mother — Mahalakshmi, Mahasaraswati and Mahakali. Set beside the Ganga, the temple town buzzes with devotion year-round and swells enormously during the Navratri melas.
