The vast Rani Sati temple in Jhunjhunu, in the Shekhawati region, is dedicated to Narayani Devi, honoured as Rani Sati Dadi, and is maintained without any depiction of the act of sati, instead venerating her as a symbol of shakti (feminine power) and devotion. The sprawling complex, built and adorned over generations by prosperous Marwari families, is decorated with colourful frescoes, marble carvings and mirror-inlaid ceilings. It is one of the richest and most visited temples in Rajasthan, a spiritual home for the trading communities who trace their roots to the region. The main shrine centres on a sacred trishul (trident) representing the goddess.
