The temple's antiquity and its dedication to Krishna's divine sister give it a unique place in Delhi's sacred landscape. Set close to the Qutub Minar complex in old Mehrauli, the Yogmaya (Jogmaya) temple is one of the five legendary temples of Indraprastha and is counted among the oldest surviving shrines of Delhi. It honours Yogmaya, the goddess born to Yashoda who, in the Bhagavata tradition, slipped from the hands of Kamsa to announce the coming of Krishna. The present temple was rebuilt in the 19th century over a far older site. It is the focus of the syncretic Phoolwalon-ki-Sair (procession of flower-sellers) festival, in which floral offerings (pankha) are made both here and at a nearby dargah, symbolising Delhi's shared heritage.
