Kalkaji Temple

Kalkaji is among the most ancient and important goddess temples of Delhi, revered for the goddess's power to destroy evil and protect her devotees. Kalkaji Mandir is an ancient shrine dedicated to the goddess Kalka, a fierce form of Kali, its present structure developed over the 18th century and after, with additions by Maratha and later patrons. According to legend, the goddess manifested here to slay the demon Raktabeej, whose every drop of blood spawned new demons until Kali consumed them. The temple's swayambhu (self-manifested) pindi is worshipped as the deity, and the shrine draws steady streams of devotees, swelling enormously during Navratri. Conveniently located near the Lotus Temple and served by its own Metro station, it remains a vibrant pilgrimage amid the bustle of South Delhi.
