Akshardham Temple Delhi

Akshardham presents the values, wisdom and artistry of Sanatan Dharma to a modern, global audience, welcoming millions of visitors of all backgrounds each year. It honours Bhagwan Swaminarayan and the Guru lineage of the BAPS tradition, while its exhibitions convey timeless teachings of dharma, devotion and harmony. As a feat of contemporary temple-building rooted in ancient techniques, it demonstrates the living continuity of Hindu culture. It has become one of Delhi's most visited landmarks.

Opened in 2005 and built by the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, Akshardham is a monument of hand-carved Rajasthani pink sandstone and Italian Carrara marble, raised entirely without structural steel in the traditional shilpa-shastra style. The central monument enshrines a golden murti of Bhagwan Swaminarayan, surrounded by intricately sculpted mandapas, pillars, elephants and deities. Its grounds feature a large step-well courtyard, lush gardens, cultural exhibition halls, a boat ride through India's heritage, and a spectacular evening musical fountain (water show). Akshardham is as much a celebration of Indian civilisation as it is a place of worship.
