महत्व

Mangala Gauri is the sixteenth of the eighteen Maha Shakti Peethas ('Gaya Mangalya Gauri cha'), marking where the breast of Sati fell — a symbol of the Mother's nourishing, life-giving grace. Its presence in Gaya, one of the holiest sites for ancestral rites, unites devotion to the Devi with the salvation of forebears. It is a cherished Shakti seat of Bihar.

परिचय

The Mangala Gauri temple sits atop a hillock in Gaya, the great tirtha of ancestral rites, and is one of the eighteen Maha Shakti Peethas. The goddess is worshipped in the form of a breast-shaped symbol (stana) rather than an idol, honouring the belief that the breast of Sati — the source of nourishment — fell here. Mentioned in the Padma Purana and other texts, the shrine draws pilgrims who combine the worship of the Mother with the pind daan rites for which Gaya is renowned, and it comes alive during Navratri.
