परिचय
Bakreshwar (Vakreshwar) in Birbhum district is renowned both as a Shakti Peetha and for its group of natural hot springs (kunds), whose steaming, mineral-rich waters draw pilgrims and visitors alike. The presiding goddess is Mahishamardini, and the associated Bhairava is Vakranath (Bakranath), from whom the town takes its name. Bathing in the sacred hot springs before darshan is an essential part of the pilgrimage, and the site is a lively centre of devotion during Navratri and Shivratri.
