This Peetha marks where the left leg (vam pada) of Sati fell; the Shakti is Bhramari and the Bhairava is Ambar (Ishwar). It is one of the northern Shakti Peethas of Bengal, tying the worship of the Divine Mother to the rivers and forests of the Dooars. Navratri and Durga Puja are the principal festivals.

परिचय

The Bhramari Devi temple stands in the Jalpaiguri region of North Bengal, in the belt where the Teesta river spreads into three streams (tristrota). The goddess Bhramari — associated with the form of the Devi who took the shape of bees to destroy a demon — is worshipped here as a powerful Shakti of the sub-Himalayan plains. Set amid the tea gardens and rivers of the Dooars, the shrine is a focus of Shakta devotion for the region and comes alive during Navratri.
