महत्व

Dantewada is counted among the Shakti Peethas, its very name (danta = tooth) recalling where a tooth of Sati is said to have fallen. As the guardian goddess of Bastar, Danteshwari unites classical Shakta devotion with the deep-rooted tribal faith of central India. The month-long Bastar Dussehra centred on her worship is a spectacle unlike any other in the country.

परिचय

The Danteshwari temple at Dantewada, built in the 14th century by the Kakatiya rulers of Bastar, stands where the Dankini and Shankini rivers meet in the tribal heartland of Chhattisgarh. The goddess Danteshwari is the kuladevi (family deity) of the erstwhile Bastar royal house and the most venerated deity across the region. The temple blends classical and local tribal traditions of worship, and its influence radiates through the famous 75-day Bastar Dussehra, one of the longest and most distinctive festivals in India, in which Danteshwari is the central presiding goddess.
