Manikyamba at Draksharama is the twelfth of the eighteen Maha Shakti Peethas ('Manikya Dakshavatike'), marking where the left cheek of Sati fell. Its enshrinement within one of the five Pancharama Shiva kshetras unites the worship of Shiva and Shakti at a single supremely sacred site. It is one of the foremost Devi seats of the Godavari region.
The Manikyamba shrine lies within the magnificent Bhimeswara Swamy temple at Draksharama in the Godavari delta — one of the five revered Pancharama Kshetras of Shiva in Andhra Pradesh. The two-storeyed 11th-century Eastern Chalukya temple enshrines a towering white Shiva lingam, and in its precinct the goddess Manikyamba is worshipped as a Maha Shakti Peetha. Draksharama is celebrated as 'Dakshina Kashi' and is associated with sages and with the sacred Saptagodavari tank fed by the seven streams of the Godavari.
