Puruhutika at Pithapuram is the tenth of the eighteen Maha Shakti Peethas ('Peethikayam Puruhutika'), marking where a part of Sati fell. Its location at Pada Gaya, sacred for shraddha rites, and its ties to the Dattatreya tradition make it a doubly holy kshetra. It is one of the great Devi seats of coastal Andhra.
The Puruhutika Devi shrine is part of the Kukkuteswara Swamy temple complex at Pithapuram in the Godavari region of Andhra Pradesh — a site revered as Pada Gaya, one of the three Gayas sacred for ancestral rites. The goddess Puruhutika is depicted four-armed, holding a spade, a lotus, seeds and a bowl of madhu, symbolising nourishment and abundance. Pithapuram is also closely associated with the saint Sripada Srivallabha, an incarnation of Dattatreya, adding to the town's sanctity.
