Verse 1

Original

गुरुर्ब्रह्मा गुरुर्विष्णुर्गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः । गुरुरेव परं ब्रह्म तस्मै श्री गुरवे नमः ॥

Transliteration

Gururbrahmaa gururvisshnurgururdevo maheshvarah, Gurureva param brahma tasmai shree gurave namah

Meaning / Translation

The Guru is Brahma, the Guru is Vishnu, the Guru is the great Lord Shiva. The Guru is the supreme Brahman, to that revered Guru, I offer my salutations

अखंडमंडलाकारं व्याप्तं येन चराचरम् । तत्पदं दर्शितं येन तस्मै श्री गुरवे नमः ॥

Transliteration

AkhandamaNDalaakaaram vyaaptam yena charaacharam, Tatpadam darshitam yena tasmai shree gurave namah

Meaning / Translation

To that revered Guru, who has shown us the state which pervades the entire universe, moving and non-moving, I offer my salutations

चैतन्यशशि भासा येन प्रकाशितं विश्वमेतत् । तत्पदं दर्शितं येन तस्मै श्री गुरवे नमः ॥

Transliteration

Chaitanyashashi bhaasaa yena prakaashitam vishvametat, Tatpadam darshitam yena tasmai shree gurave namah

Meaning / Translation

To that revered Guru, who has illuminated the entire universe with the radiance of consciousness, I offer my salutations

गुरोः पादोदकं सम्यक् शिरसि धारयाम्यहम् । गुरोः पादोदकं दिव्यं गुरोः पादोदकं पवित्रम् ॥

Transliteration

Guroh paadodakam samyak shirasi dhaarayaamyaham, Guroh paadodakam divyam guroh paadodakam pavitram

Meaning / Translation

I properly hold the water that has washed the Guru's feet upon my head; the water that has washed the Guru's feet is divine, the water that has washed the Guru's feet is purifying
