Kundli Matching (Gun Milan)

Kundli Matching compares the birth stars of the prospective bride and groom across eight kootas (factors) and adds up their points to a maximum of 36 gunas. The eight are Varna (1 point, spiritual compatibility), Vashya (2, mutual influence), Tara (3, health and well-being), Yoni (4, physical and instinctive compatibility), Graha Maitri (5, mental and intellectual bonding), Gana (6, temperament), Bhakoot (7, love and family welfare), and Nadi (8, health and progeny).

The tool calculates each koota from the Moon's nakshatra and rashi of both partners and shows the score for every factor, so you can see exactly where the match is strong and where it is weaker, rather than a single number in isolation.

As a traditional guide, a total of 18 or more gunas out of 36 is considered acceptable, 24 and above is very good, and 32 and above is excellent. A score below 18 is usually not recommended without careful review by an astrologer.

Two doshas deserve special attention. Nadi dosha (a 0 out of 8 in Nadi) and Bhakoot dosha (a 0 out of 7 in Bhakoot) are flagged in the result. Both are traditionally examined more closely because classical texts describe cancellations (parihara) under certain conditions. A high guna score alone is not a complete verdict, Manglik (Mangal) dosha, the planetary dashas, and the full horoscopes of both individuals also matter, so use this as a first screening and consult a qualified astrologer before deciding.
