Shubh Muhurat Finder

A shubh muhurat is an auspicious window of time chosen to begin an important activity, a marriage, griha pravesh (housewarming), vehicle purchase, naming ceremony, or new venture. In Hindu tradition, starting well is believed to help things go well, so the timing is selected from the Panchang, using the tithi, nakshatra, weekday, and finer divisions of the day such as Abhijit Muhurat and Choghadiya.

Because these divisions are calculated from the local sunrise and sunset, the same date can have different auspicious windows in different cities. Selecting your date, activity, and location gives you the accurate timings for that place.

The finder highlights the most auspicious window first, usually the Abhijit Muhurat, a short period around midday that is considered universally favourable for almost any good work. Below it, the favourable Choghadiya windows are listed for your chosen activity; Amrit, Shubh, and Labh are the broadly auspicious periods, and the tool matches the right ones to the task, for example Labh for business and Chal for travel.

Just as important is what to avoid. The result marks the inauspicious periods, Rahu Kaal, Gulika Kaal, and Yamaghanda, that are traditionally not used for beginning important work. For everyday activities these general timings are enough; for major life events such as marriage, a personalised muhurat also weighs the individuals' horoscopes, so treat this as a reliable starting point and consult a learned pandit for the final decision.
