Choghadiya Today

Choghadiya is a simple Vedic method of picking an auspicious time of day. It divides the day (sunrise to sunset) and the night (sunset to next sunrise) into eight periods each, roughly an hour and a half long. Every period carries a name and a nature, auspicious (Amrit, Shubh, Labh), neutral (Chal), or inauspicious (Kaal, Rog, Udveg), so you can tell at a glance whether a moment is favourable for starting something.

Because the periods are measured from the local sunrise and sunset, they shift from city to city and day to day. Choosing your location gives you the correct day and night Choghadiya for exactly where you are.

The current period is highlighted with a 'Now' badge, so you can immediately see whether this is a good time to act. For quick decisions, aim to start work during Amrit, Shubh, or Labh, Amrit suits almost any auspicious task, Labh is favoured for business and financial matters, and Shubh for ceremonies and gentle beginnings. Chal is fine for travel and movement.

Try to avoid beginning important work during Kaal, Rog, or Udveg, and steer clear of Rahu Kaal entirely. Choghadiya is best for everyday timing, travel, shopping, signing papers, launching a small venture; for weddings and other major events, pair it with a full muhurat that also considers the tithi, nakshatra, and the individuals' horoscopes.
