Surya (The Sun)

Original

ॐ सूर्याय नमः। जपाकुसुमसंकाशं काश्यपेयं महाद्युतिम्। तमोऽरिं सर्वपापघ्नं प्रणतोऽस्मि दिवाकरम्॥

Transliteration

Om Suryaya Namah. Japākushama-saṅkāśaṃ Kāśyapeyaṃ mahādyutim. Tamo'riṃ sarva-pāpaghnaṃ praṇato'smi divākaram.

Meaning / Translation

Salutations to the Sun. Who is as bright as the red hibiscus, the son of Kashyapa, the destroyer of darkness and all sins, I bow to the Lord of Light.

Chandra (The Moon)

Original

ॐ चन्द्राय नमः। दधिशङ्खतुषाराभं क्षीरोदार्णवसंभवम्। नमामि शशिनं सोमं शशाङ्कमुग्रमक्षरम्॥

Transliteration

Om Chandraya Namah. Dadhi-śaṅkha-tuṣārābhaṃ kṣīrodārṇava-saṃbhavam. Namāmi śaśinaṃ somaṃ śaśāṅkam-ugram-akṣaram.

Meaning / Translation

Salutations to the Moon. Who is white like curd, conch, and snow, born from the ocean of milk, I bow to the moon, the luminous and eternal one.

Mangala (Mars)

ॐ भौमाय नमः। अंगारको महातेजः पृथ्वीपुत्रोऽघवन्मयः। सर्वकार्यफलप्रदः प्रपन्नार्तिभयञ्जनः॥

Transliteration

Om Bhaumaya Namah. Aṅgārako mahātejaḥ pṛthvī-putro'ghavanmayaḥ. Sarva-kārya-phalapradaḥ prapannārti-bhayañjanaḥ.

Meaning / Translation

Salutations to Mars. The fiery one of great brilliance, the son of Earth, who grants the fruits of all endeavors and removes the fears of those who surrender to Him.

Budha (Mercury)

ॐ बुधाय नमः। पृथ्वीमानससंजातं व्यवर्तं च चतुर्भुजम्। बुधं बुद्धिवर्धकं देवं प्रणमाम्यहमव्ययम्॥

Transliteration

Om Budhaya Namah. Pṛthvī-mānasa-saṃjātaṃ vyavartaṃ ca caturbhujam. Budhaṃ buddhivardhakaṃ devaṃ praṇamāmy-aham-avyayam.

Meaning / Translation

Salutations to Mercury. Born from the mind of the Earth, the four-armed one, the enhancer of intelligence, I bow to the imperishable deity.

Brihaspati (Jupiter)

Original

ॐ बृहस्पतये नमः। देवानां च गुरुं देवं सर्वज्ञानप्रदायकम्। वृषभारूढं महादीप्तं प्रणमामि बृहस्पतिम्॥

Transliteration

Om Brihaspataye Namah. Devānāṃ ca guruṃ devaṃ sarva-jñāna-pradāyakam. Vṛṣabhārūḍhaṃ mahādīptaṃ praṇamāmi bṛhaspatim.

Meaning / Translation

Salutations to Jupiter. The teacher of the Gods, the giver of all knowledge, riding a bull, the most radiant, I bow to Brihaspati.

Shukra (Venus)

ॐ शुक्राय नमः। दैत्यानां गुरुं देवं सर्वशास्त्रप्रबोधकम्। श्वेतवर्णं सुदैवीं च प्रणमामि शुक्रम्॥

Transliteration

Om Shukraya Namah. Daityānāṃ guruṃ devaṃ sarva-śāstra-prabodhakam. Śvetavarṇaṃ sudaivīṃ ca praṇamāmi śukram.

Meaning / Translation

Salutations to Venus. The teacher of the Asuras, the enlightener of all scriptures, the white-hued one, I bow to Shukra.

Shani (Saturn)

ॐ शनैश्चराय नमः। नीलांजनसमाभासं रविपुत्रं यमाग्रजम्। सर्वपापप्रणाशनं प्रणमामि शनैश्चरम्॥

Transliteration

Om Shanaishcharaya Namah. Nīlāñjana-samābhāsaṃ ravi-putraṃ yamāgrajam. Sarva-pāpa-praṇāśanaṃ praṇamāmi śanaishcharam.

Meaning / Translation

Salutations to Saturn. Who is dark like blue collyrium, the son of the Sun and brother of Yama, the destroyer of all sins, I bow to Shani.

Rahu & Ketu (The Shadow Planets)

ॐ राहुवे नमः। ॐ केतवे नमः। छायापुत्रौ महाबलौ छायाग्रस्तोऽसि ग्रहाभयम्॥

Transliteration

Om Rahave Namah. Om Ketave Namah. Chāyā-putrau mahābalau chāyā-grasto'si grahābhayam.

Meaning / Translation

Salutations to Rahu and Ketu. The two powerful sons of Shadow, who control the celestial alignments and grant protection from planetary maleficence.
