The Universality of Om
Original
ॐ सर्वम्। सर्वं तद् ब्रह्म।
Transliteration
Om sarvam. Sarvaṃ tad brahma.

Om is all. That all is Brahman (the Absolute Reality).
The Threefold Sound
Original
अकारः प्रथमः, उकारः द्वितीयः, मकारः तृतीयः।
Transliteration
Akāraḥ prathamaḥ, ukāraḥ dvitīyaḥ, makāraḥ tṛtīyaḥ.
Meaning / Translation
The sound 'A' is the first, the sound 'U' is the second, and the sound 'M' is the third.
The Waking State (Vaishvanara)

अकारः वैश्वानरः, जाग्रत्। बाह्यविषयः।
Transliteration
Akāraḥ vaiśvānaraḥ, jāgrat. Bāhyaviṣayaḥ.

The 'A' represents the waking state, known as Vaishvanara, which experiences the external world.
The Dreaming State (Taijasa)

उकारः तैजसः, स्वप्न। अन्तर्विषयः।
Transliteration
Ukāraḥ taijasaḥ, svapna. Antarviṣayaḥ.

The 'U' represents the dreaming state, known as Taijasa, which experiences the internal world of impressions.
The Deep Sleep State (Prajna)

मकारः प्राज्ञः, सुषुप्तिः। विदेहः।

The 'M' represents the state of deep sleep, known as Prajna, where there is no desire and no dream.
