Prastavana (Introduction)

देवों का बल गया, असुरों का बढ़ा मान। समुद्र मंथन की कथा, सुनकर बढ़ा ज्ञान॥

Transliteration

Devon ka bal gaya, asuron ka badha maan. Samudra manthan ki katha, sunkar badha gyan.

Meaning / Translation

The strength of the Devas was lost, while the pride of the Asuras increased. Listening to the story of the Churning of the Ocean increases wisdom.

Mandara aur Vasuki (The Churning Setup)

Original

मंदार पर्वत मथनी बनी, वासुकि नाग की रस्सी। देव और दानव मिले, करने को मंथन भारी॥

Transliteration

Mandara parvat mathani bani, Vasuki naag ki rassi. Dev aur daanav mile, karne ko manthan bhaari.

Meaning / Translation

Mount Mandara became the churning rod, and the serpent Vasuki became the rope. Devas and demons came together to perform the great churning.

Halahala Vish (The Deadly Poison)

निकले निकले विष कालकूट, सृष्टि पर संकट आया। महादेव ने पी लिया, नीलकंठ कहलाया॥

Transliteration

Nikle nikle vish kaalkoot, srishti par sankat aaya. Mahadev ne pee liya, Neelkanth kehlaaya.

Meaning / Translation

The deadly Kaalkoot poison emerged, bringing crisis to all of creation. Lord Mahadev drank it, and thus became known as Neelkanth (the blue-throated one).

Ratna Prapti (Emergence of the Gems)

Original

लक्ष्मी निकलीं सागर से, धनवंतरी अमृत लाए। ऐरावत, कामधेनु, रत्न अनगिनत आए॥

Transliteration

Lakshmi niklin sagar se, Dhanvantari amrit laaye. Airavat, Kamadhenu, ratna anginat aaye.

Meaning / Translation

Goddess Lakshmi emerged from the ocean, and Dhanvantari brought the nectar of immortality. Airavat (the elephant), Kamadhenu (the wish-fulfilling cow), and countless other gems appeared.

Amrit Prapti (The Victory of Dharma)

Original

अमृत पाकर देव जीत गए, असुर हुए पराजित। धर्म की हुई विजय यहाँ, मिटा सारा संशय॥

Transliteration

Amrit paakar dev jeet gaye, asur hue paraajit. Dharma ki hui vijay yahaan, mita saara sanshay.

Meaning / Translation

Obtaining the nectar, the Devas triumphed, and the Asuras were defeated. Righteousness prevailed here, and all doubts were erased.
