तिथिः वारः नक्षत्रं योगः करणं एव च । पञ्चाङ्गं इति ख्यातं पञ्च तत्त्वात्मकं स्मृतम् ॥
Transliteration
Tithiḥ vāraḥ nakṣatraṃ yogaḥ karaṇaṃ eva ca । Pañcāṅgaṃ iti khyātaṃ pañca tattvātmakam smṛtam ॥
Meaning / Translation
Tithi (lunar day), Vara (weekday), Nakshatra (lunar mansion), Yoga (luni-solar combination), and Karana (half lunar day) — these five constitute the Panchang, the five-limbed almanac of Hindu timekeeping.

Transliteration

कालः क्रीडति गच्छत्यायुः संवत्सरोऽयम् । न तस्य निमेषोऽपि पुनरागमनं विदुः ॥
Transliteration
Kālaḥ krīḍati gacchatyāyuḥ saṃvatsaro'yam । Na tasya nameṣo'pi punarāgamanaṃ viduḥ ॥
Meaning / Translation
Time plays, and life passes; this year goes by. Not even a moment (nimisha) of time returns — such is the irreversible flow of Kala, measured by the Panchang.

सूर्यचन्द्रमसौ यो वै स एव ब्रह्म सनातनम् । तयोः संयोगविज्ञानं पञ्चाङ्गे प्रतिपाद्यते ॥
Transliteration
Sūryacandramasau yo vai sa eva brahma sanātanam । Tayoḥ saṃyogavijñānaṃ pañcāṅge pratipādyate ॥
Meaning / Translation
The Sun and Moon together represent the eternal Brahman. The science of their conjunctions and relative positions — the basis of Tithi, Yoga, and Karana — is expounded in the Panchang.
