Transliteration
Yamasya tvā vayam agne sakhyē yamasya tvā vayam agne sakhyē . Yamasya tvā vayam agne sakhyē yamasya tvā vayam agne sakhyē || Yamo hi prathamō devānām āsan yamo hi prathamō manuṣyāṇām . Yamo hi prathamō gavām āsan yamo hi prathamō ajānām ||
Meaning / Translation
O Agni, we seek friendship with Yama; we seek friendship with Yama. Yama was the first among the Devas to tread the path; Yama was the first among humans; Yama was the first among cows; Yama was the first among goats. He is the pioneer of the path of mortality, the ruler of the ancestors (Pitrs), and the upholder of Dharma (Rta).

Transliteration

Meaning / Translation
Om, let us meditate on the Son of Surya (Yama); let us contemplate on the Great Time (Mahakala). May Yama inspire and guide our intellect towards righteousness and the ultimate truth.

कृष्णं चर्म चीरं च कृष्णं चर्म वाससम् । महिषारूढं देवं यमं प्रणमाम्यहम् ॥ दण्डपाशधरं भोगी सर्वभूतक्षयाकरम् । दक्षिणायां दिशि स्थितं यमं प्रणमाम्यहम् ॥
Transliteration
Kṛṣṇaṁ carma cīraṁ ca kṛṣṇaṁ carma vāsasam . Mahiṣārūḍhaṁ devaṁ yamaṁ praṇamāmyaham || Daṇḍapāśadharaṁ bhōgī sarvabhūtakṣayākaram . Dakṣiṇāyāṁ diśi sthitaṁ yamaṁ praṇamāmyaham ||
Meaning / Translation
I bow to Yama, who wears black hide and black garments, who rides a buffalo, who holds the staff (Danda) and noose (Pasha), who is the enjoyer of sacrifices and the cause of dissolution of all beings, and who resides in the southern direction.

Transliteration
Dharmarāja namastubhyaṁ namaste cāntakāya ca . Namaste sarvabhūtānāṁ namaste yamasattama || Kālakūṭakaraṁ viṣaṁ yamarāja tava vāhanam . Mahiṣaṁ ca tathaivātra kṣamasva parameśvara ||
Meaning / Translation
Salutations to Dharmaraja (King of Righteousness), salutations to Antaka (the Ender), salutations to the Lord of all beings, salutations to the best of Yamas. O Yama Raja, the buffalo (your vehicle) is like the poison Kalakuta (deadly); O Supreme Lord, please forgive (my offenses/protect me from untimely death).

Transliteration
Mṛtyunā pāśadaṇḍābhyāṁ kālena śyāmayā saha . Trayōdaśyāṁ dīpadānāt sūryajaḥ prīyatām iti ||
Meaning / Translation
May Suryaputra (Yama), along with Death (Mrityu), the Noose (Pasha), the Staff (Danda), and Kala (Time/Shyama), be pleased by the offering of lamps on the Trayodashi (13th lunar day), granting protection from untimely death and fear of Naraka.

Meaning / Translation
Salutations to Yama Raja along with his messengers (Yamadutas). On the auspicious occasion of Yama Dwitiya, please grant protection and long life to my brothers.

यमाय तर्पयामि यमस्य तर्पणं कृतम् । पितृणां पतये तस्मै स्वधा नमो नमः ॥
Transliteration
Yamāya tarpayāmi yamasya tarpaṇaṁ kṛtam . Pitṝṇāṁ pataye tasmai svadhā namo namaḥ ||
Meaning / Translation
I offer oblations (Tarpanam) to Yama; the offering to Yama is done. Salutations with Svadha (offering to ancestors) to Him who is the Lord of the Pitrs (Ancestors).
