Naina Devi is one of the revered Shakti Peethas of North India, sanctified by the falling of Sati's eyes. It is closely linked with the legend of the goddess vanquishing the demon Mahishasura, and devotees come to seek courage, protection and the fulfilment of vows. Together with other Devi shrines of Himachal, it forms an important circuit of goddess pilgrimage in the region. The mother is believed to watch over her devotees with an ever-vigilant gaze.
परिचय
Perched atop a ridge in the Shivalik hills of Bilaspur, Naina Devi commands sweeping views of the Govind Sagar reservoir and the surrounding valleys. Pilgrims reach the shrine by a steep climb or a convenient ropeway, passing rows of stalls selling flowers, coconuts and offerings. The temple enshrines the goddess along with images of Kali and Ganesha, and the air rings with the chants of devotees seeking the mother's blessings. During the Shravan Ashtami and Navratri fairs, the hilltop overflows with hundreds of thousands of pilgrims.
