Verse 1

Original

अग्निः पूर्वे दिशि मुखः, यज्ञस्य देविरात्मा । अग्निर्होता कविक्रतुः, सर्वे देवा यज्ञम्तन्वते ॥

Transliteration

Agniḥ pūrve diśi mukhaḥ, yajñasya devisātmā. Agnirhotā kavikratuḥ, sarve devā yajñam tanvate.

Meaning / Translation

Agni is the face of the east, the deity of the sacrifice, and the soul of the sacrifice. Agni is the priest, the poet, and the maker of the sacrifice. All the gods extend the sacrifice.

Verse 2

Original

यज्ञेन देवा देवयज्ञम्, देवा देवेषु यज्ञम्तनु । यज्ञो देवेषु विचाय्यान्, तानि देवा अवन्तदिन्द्रः ॥

Transliteration

Yajñena devā devayajñam, devā deveṣu yajñam tanu. Yajño deveṣu vicāyyān, tāni devā avrantad indraḥ.

Meaning / Translation

The gods have made the sacrifice, and the gods have extended the sacrifice among the gods. The sacrifice, being extended among the gods, has been made to shine by Indra.

Verse 3

Original

तं देवा उपावव्रुः, तं देवा अवृणीत तद् । यज्ञस्य यज्ञपाता यज्ञें, देवा देवेषु यज्ञम्तद् ॥

Transliteration

Taṃ devā upāvavruḥ, taṃ devā avṛṇīta tad. Yajñasya yajñapātā yajñam, devā deveṣu yajñam tad.

Meaning / Translation

The gods have approached that, and the gods have chosen that. The lords of the sacrifice, the gods, have made the sacrifice among the gods.

Verse 4
