Verse 1: The Nature of Truth

Original

वदन्ति तत्त्वविदस् तत्त्वं यज्ज्ञानमनद्वयम् । ब्रह्म वै तत्त्वमखिलं ब्रह्म ब्रह्म वै तदद्वयम् ॥

Transliteration

vadanti tat tattva-vidas tattvam yaj jnanam advayam | brahma vai tattvam akhilam brahma brahma vai tad advayam ||

Meaning / Translation

The knowers of truth declare that the Truth is the non-dual knowledge. Brahman is the absolute truth, and Brahman is that non-dual reality.

Verse 2: Salutation to the Supreme

नमस्तेऽस्तु परस्मै पुरुषाय महात्मने । सर्वधर्मनिरहंकारैः पूर्णाय निजधर्मात्मने ॥

Transliteration

namas tasmai namo 'stu te puruṣāya mahātmane | sarva-dharma-nirahankāraiḥ pūrṇāya nija-dharmātmane ||

Meaning / Translation

Salutations to the Supreme Person, the great soul, who is free from all material qualities and ego, and is complete in His own eternal nature.

Verse 3: The Presence of Krishna

श्री कृष्णः सर्वभूतानां हृदि संस्तितोऽनया । तस्मात् परं न किञ्चित्स्ति तत्त्वतः परं नरात् ॥

Transliteration

śrī kṛṣṇaḥ sarva-bhūtānāṁ hṛdi saṁstito 'nayā | tasmāt paraṁ na kiñcit sti tattvataḥ paraṁ narāt ||

Meaning / Translation

Shri Krishna resides in the hearts of all living beings; there is nothing higher than Him, and nothing more real than Him in the ultimate truth.

Verse 4: The Eternal Light

न तद्भासयते सूर्यो न शशाङ्को न पावकः । यद्भासयते सर्वस्य तस्माद्भासते सर्वशः ॥

Transliteration

na tad bhāsayate sūryo na śaśāṅko na pāvakaḥ | yad bhāsayate sarvasya tasmād bhāsate sarvaśaḥ ||

Meaning / Translation

Neither the sun, nor the moon, nor fire can illuminate Him. He illuminates everything, and thus He shines upon all existence.
