Verse 1

Original

मंत्रो मे जप्तु चित्त शुद्धि कर्मणि चायम्। स्वाध्याय: प्राणायामश्च योगश्चित्त वृत्ति निग्रह:।।

Transliteration

manthro me japtu chitta shuddhi karmani chayam, swadhyaya pranayamashcha yogashchitta vritti nigrahah

Meaning / Translation

Purification of the mind through repetition of mantras, good actions, self-study, control of the breath, and control of the mind through yoga.

Verse 2

Original

वेदोऽखिलो धर्ममूलं स्मृतिशीले च तद्विदः। आचारो ह्युदाहृतो राज्ञः प्रजानां च हिते रतः।।

Transliteration

vedoakhilo dharmamoolam smritishile cha tadvaidah, aacharo hyudaahrito raajnah prajaanaam cha hite ratah

Meaning / Translation

The entire Vedas are the foundation of dharma, the Smritis describe the duties for different varnas, the king and his subjects work for the welfare of all.

Verse 3

Original

स्वाध्यायश्च प्राणायामश्च योगश्चित्तवृत्तिनिग्रहः। एतैर्युक्तः प्रयत्नेन न सीदति न हि सीदति।।

Transliteration

swadhyayashcha pranayamashcha yogashchittavrittinigrahah, etairyuktah prayatnena na seedati na hi seedati

Meaning / Translation

One who is endowed with self-study, control of the breath, and control of the mind through yoga, does not falter in his efforts and remains steadfast.

Original

आत्मशुद्धिरात्मानं प्रोक्षयित्वा पुनः पुनः। आत्मनः शुद्धिरात्मानं प्रोक्षयित्वा पुनः पुनः।

Transliteration

atmashuddhiratmanam prokshayitvaa punah punah, atmanah shuddhiratmanam prokshayitvaa punah punah

Meaning / Translation

By self-purification, one should cleanse the self again and again, and by self-purification, the self is cleansed again and again.
