Garba Stanza I: The Arrival

आई रे आई मैया रानी, जगदम्बे आई है। भक्तों के दुख हरने को, शक्ति स्वरूपा आई है। ढोल बाजे, मंजीरा बाजे, द्वारे पे उत्सव छाया है। मैया के स्वागत में देखो, सारा जग मुस्काया है।
Transliteration
Aayi re aayi Maiya Rani, Jagdambe aayi hai | Bhakton ke dukh harne ko, Shakti Swaroopa aayi hai | Dhol baaje, manjira baaje, dwaare pe utsav chhaya hai | Maiya ke swagat mein dekho, saara jag muskaya hai.
Meaning / Translation
The Queen Mother has arrived, the Mother of the Universe has arrived. To take away the sorrows of her devotees, the embodiment of Power has arrived. The drums beat, the cymbals ring, and the festival has spread at her doorstep. Look, the entire world smiles in welcome of the Mother.

सिंह सवारी मैया तेरी, लाल चुनरिया सोहे। हाथों में खड्ग और त्रिशूल, भक्तों का मन मोहे। मस्तक पे चंदा चमके, नयनों में करुणा भारी। जय माँ दुर्गे, जय माँ अम्बे, महिमा तेरी न्यारी।
Transliteration
Singh sawari Maiya teri, laal chunariya sohe | Haathon mein khadag aur trishul, bhakton ka man mohe | Mastak pe chanda chamke, nayanon mein karuna bhaari | Jai Maa Durge, Jai Maa Ambe, mahima teri nyaari.

Mother, you ride upon a lion, and your red veil looks beautiful. With a sword and a trident in your hands, you enchant the hearts of devotees. The moon shines upon your forehead, and your eyes are filled with immense compassion. Victory to Mother Durga, Victory to Mother Ambe, your glory is unique.

गरबे की ताल पे झूम के, नाचें हम सब मिलकर। भक्ति के रंग में रंग के, झूम उठें हम सब मिलकर। शक्ति की ज्योत जगा के, मन का अंधकार मिटाएं। जय माता दी के नारों से, सारा अंबर गूंज जाए।

Garbe ki taal pe jhoom ke, naachein hum sab milkar | Bhakti ke rang mein rang ke, jhoom uthein hum sab milkar | Shakti ki jyot jaga ke, mann ka andhkaar mitaayein | Jai Mata Di ke naaron se, saara ambar goonje jaaye.

Dancing to the rhythm of the Garba, let us all dance together. Colored in the hues of devotion, let us all sway together. By lighting the flame of Shakti, let us erase the darkness of the mind. With the chants of 'Jai Mata Di', let the entire sky echo.
