धर्मराज उवाच: हे भीष्म! आप मुझे भगवान विष्णु के उन सहस्र नामों के बारे में बताइये जो अत्यंत कल्याणकारी हैं और जिनसे मनुष्य को मोक्ष की प्राप्ति होती है।

Transliteration

Dharmaraja uvacha: He Bhishma! Aap mujhe Bhagavan Vishnua ke un sahasra namon ke bare mein bataiye jo atyanta kalyankari hain aur jinse manushya ko moksha ki prapti hoti hai.

Meaning / Translation

Yudhishthira asked: O Bhishma! Please tell me those thousand names of Lord Vishnu which are extremely auspicious and through which a human being attains liberation.

भीष्म उवाच: हे धर्मराज! भगवान विष्णु के इन नामों का श्रवण करने से मनुष्य के सभी पाप नष्ट हो जाते हैं और उसे परम शांति प्राप्त होती है।

Transliteration

Bhishma uvacha: He Dharmaraja! Bhagavan Vishnua ke in namon ka shravan karne se manushya ke sabhi paap nasht ho jate hain aur use param shanti prapt hoti hai.

Meaning / Translation

Bhishma replied: O King of Dharma! By listening to these names of Lord Vishnu, all the sins of a person are destroyed and supreme peace is attained.

शान्ताकारं भुजङ्गशयनां पद्मनाभं सुरेशं विश्वाधारं गगनसदृशं मेघवर्णं शुभाङ्गम्। लक्ष्मीकान्तं कमलनयनं योगिभिर्ध्यानगम्यं वन्दे विष्णुं भवभयहरं सर्वलोकैकनाथम्॥

Transliteration

Shantakaram bhujanga-shayanam padmanabham suresham vishvadhāram gagana-sadrisham meghavarnam shubhangam | lakshmikantam kamalanayanam yogibhirdhyana-gamyam vande vishnum bhava-bhaya-haram sarva-lokaika-natham ||

Meaning / Translation

I bow to Lord Vishnu, who has a peaceful form, who rests on the serpent, whose navel has a lotus, who is the Lord of the Devas, who is the support of the universe, who is all-pervading like the sky, who is dark like a cloud, whose limbs are beautiful, who is the beloved of Lakshmi, whose eyes are like lotuses, who is attained by Yogis through meditation, and who removes the fear of worldly existence, the sole Lord of all worlds.
