जय श्री महाकाल, जय महाकाल। उज्जैन के राजा, जय महाकाल॥

Transliteration

Jai Shri Mahakal, Jai Mahakal. Ujjain ke Raja, Jai Mahakal.

भस्म अंग सोहे, मस्तक चंदा, गले मुंड की माला। त्रिनेत्र धारी, कपाल धारी, अद्भुत रूप निराला॥

Transliteration

Bhasma ang sohe, mastak chanda, gale mund ki maala. Trinetra dhaari, kapaal dhaari, adbhut roop niraala.

Meaning / Translation

Ash adorns your body, the moon shines on your forehead, and a garland of skulls hangs from your neck. The three-eyed one, the skull-bearer, possessing a wondrous and unique form.

जटा में गंगा, हाथ में त्रिशूल, डमरू बाजे प्यारा। काल के भी काल महाकाल, जग का उजियारा॥

Transliteration

Jata mein Ganga, haath mein trishul, damru baaje pyaara. Kaal ke bhi kaal Mahakal, jag ka ujiyaara.

Meaning / Translation

The Ganges flows in your matted hair, you hold a trident in your hand, and your damru plays sweet music. You are the death of death itself, Mahakal, the light of the entire universe.

भूत प्रेत सब थर-थर कांपें, देख रूप विकराला। जो शरण आए महाकाल की, पा जाए सुख माला॥

Transliteration

Bhoot pret sab thar-thar kaanpen, dekh roop vikaala. Jo sharan aaye Mahakal ki, paa jaaye sukh maala.

Meaning / Translation

Ghosts and spirits tremble seeing your fierce form. Whoever seeks refuge in Mahakal attains a garland of eternal happiness.
