Om Gam Ganapataye Namaha
Meaning / Translation
Salutations to Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, to begin this sacred rite.
Yagnopavita Dharana Mantra (The Sacred Thread Mantra)

याज्ञोपवीतं परमं पवित्रं प्रजापतेर्यत्सहजं पुरस्तात् । आयुष्यमग्र्यं प्रतिमुञ्च शुभ्रं यज्ञोपवीतं बलमस्तु तेजः ॥
Transliteration
Yagnopaveetam paramam pavitram prajapateryat sahajam purastat | Ayushyam agryam pratimuncha shubhram yagnopaveetam balam astu tejaha ||
Meaning / Translation
This sacred thread is supremely pure, born with Prajapati (the Creator) in the beginning. May it grant long life, be auspicious, and provide strength and radiance to the wearer.

Transliteration
Om Bhur Bhuvah Svah Tat Savitur Varenyam Bhargo Devasya Dheemahi Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodayat ||
Meaning / Translation
We meditate on the glory of the Divine Creator, who is worthy of worship, who is the remover of darkness; may He enlighten our intellect and guide us on the right path.

ब्रह्मचर्य व्रत पालनार्थं, वेदमध्ययनार्थं, गायत्री जपार्थं च उपनयन संस्कारं करिष्ये ।
Transliteration
Brahmacharya vrata palanartham, vedamadhyayanartham, gayatri japartham cha upanayana sanskaram karishye.
Meaning / Translation
I perform this Upanayana ceremony for the purpose of observing the vow of celibacy, studying the Vedas, and chanting the Gayatri mantra.
