नारायणं नमस्कृत्य नरं चैव नरोत्तमम्। देवीं सरस्वतीं व्यासं ततो जयमुदीरयेत्॥
Nārāyaṇaṁ namaskṛtya naraṁ caiva narottamam | Devīṁ Sarasvatīṁ Vyāsaṁ tato jayam udīrayet ||
Meaning: Having bowed down to Narayana, to Nara the best of men, to Goddess Saraswati, and to Vyasa, one should then proclaim 'Jaya' (victory). This is the traditional opening verse of the Mahabharata.
ॐ पार्थाय प्रतिबोधितां भगवता नारायणेन स्वयं व्यासेन ग्रथितां पुराणमुनिना मध्ये महाभारतम्। अद्वैतामृतवर्षिणीं भगवतीमष्टादशाध्यायिनीं अम्ब त्वां अनुसन्दधामि भगवद्गीते भवद्वेषिणीम्॥
Om pārthāya pratibodhitāṁ bhagavatā nārāyaṇena svayaṁ vyāsena grathitāṁ purāṇamuninā madhye mahābhāratam | advaitāmṛtavarṣiṇīṁ bhagavatīmaṣṭādaśādhyāyinīṁ amba tvāṁ anusandadhāmi bhagavadgīte bhavadveṣiṇīm ||
Meaning: Om. The Bhagavad Gita, taught by Lord Narayana Himself to Arjuna, composed by the sage Vyasa in the midst of the Mahabharata, consisting of eighteen chapters, showering the nectar of non-duality, O Mother Gita, destroyer of the cycle of birth and death, I meditate upon you.
विष्णुं जिष्णुं महाविष्णुं प्रभाविष्णुं महेश्वरम्। अनादिनिधनं विष्णुं सर्वलोकमहेश्वरम्॥ लोकाध्यक्षं स्तुवंनित्यं सर्वदुःखातिगो भवेत्॥
Viṣṇuṁ jiṣṇuṁ mahāviṣṇuṁ prabhāviṣṇuṁ maheśvaram | anādinidhanaṁ viṣṇuṁ sarvalokamaheśvaram || lokādhyakṣaṁ stuvannityaṁ sarvaduḥkhātigo bhavet ||
Meaning: One who chants daily the thousand names of Vishnu — the Victorious, the Great Vishnu, the Manifest Vishnu, the Great Lord, the Beginningless and Endless, the Lord of all worlds — becomes freed from all sorrows.
ॐ सह नाववतु । सह नौ भुनक्तु । सह वीर्यं करवावहै । तेजस्वि नावधीतमस्तु मा विद्विषावहै ॥ ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥
Om saha nāvavatu | saha nau bhunaktu | saha vīryaṁ karavāvahai | tejasvi nāvadhītamastu mā vidviṣāvahai || Om śāntiḥ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ ||
Meaning: Om. May He protect us both (teacher and student). May He nourish us both. May we work together with great energy. May our study be brilliant and effective. May we not hate each other. Om peace, peace, peace.
