Why the Bhai Dooj muhurat matters
The tilak is traditionally applied during Aparahna Kaal — the afternoon portion of the day. Doing the ceremony within this window, shown below, is considered most auspicious for the sibling bond.
Do's
- Apply the tilak within the Aparahna muhurat window shown below.
- Prepare a thali with tilak, rice, sweets and a diya for the aarti.
- Brothers should sit facing east or north for the tilak.
Don'ts
- Avoid the tilak during Rahu Kaal or Yamaghanda.
- Don't quarrel; the day is meant for goodwill between siblings.
