यज्ञोपवीतं परिब्रूयात् यज्ञेन यज्ञमयजंत देवा:
Transliteration
yajñopavītaṁ paribruyāt yajñena yajñamayajanta devāḥ
Meaning / Translation
The sacred thread is explained thus: The gods, having performed a sacrifice with a sacrifice, have tied this (sacred thread) for themselves.
Verse 2

त्रिणाचिकेतस् त्रिसुपर्णा त्र्यञ्चो व्रतम्, त्र्यञ्चो ज्योतिः。
Transliteration
triṇāciketas tri-suparṇā tryañco vratam, tryañco jyotiḥ
Meaning / Translation
Three threads are the three Nachiketa fires, three are the Suparna birds, threefold is the vow, threefold is the light.

सावित्री प्रज्ञां देव जननीः काली परमेष्ठ्यन्।
Transliteration
sāvitrī prajñāṁ deva jananyo kālī parameṣṭhyan
Meaning / Translation
Savitri, the goddess, (is) the mother of the Prajapatis; Kali, the highest of the Parameshthins.

Transliteration
yajñopavītin yajñamayajanta devā yajñena yajñaparimokṣāya
Meaning / Translation
The gods, having performed a sacrifice, have tied this (sacred thread) for the sake of liberation through sacrifice.
