Invocation Mantra (Ganga Prarthana)

Original

ॐ नमो गंगायै अमृतस्वरूपिण्यै नमः। सर्वेषां पापप्रणाशिण्यै नमो नमः॥

Transliteration

Om Namo Gangayai Amritaswarupinyai Namah. Sarvesham Papa-pranashinyai Namo Namah.

Meaning / Translation

Salutations to Mother Ganga, the embodiment of nectar. Salutations again and again to the one who destroys the sins of all beings.

मंदाकिनी मंदाकिनी मंदाकिनी गङ्गा, शिवस्कन्धशिरसि विराजिता गङ्गा। तपस्विनी तप्तगात्रभवद्विमोचनी, प्रपद्ये त्वं पावनगङ्गा शरं प्रपद्ये॥

Transliteration

Mandakini Mandakini Mandakini Ganga, Shivaskandha-shirasi virajita Ganga. Tapasvini tapta-gatrabha-vidmochani, Prapadye tvam pavana Ganga sharam prapadye.

Meaning / Translation

O Mandakini, O Ganga, who shines upon the shoulders and hair of Lord Shiva. O ascetic one, who liberates those suffering from the heat of worldly existence, I take refuge in you, O pure Ganga; I surrender to you.

पापविनाशिनी पावनं पावनं, भूतिप्रदां भीतिहरं शान्तिदायिनी। सर्वपापप्रशमनं सर्वपुण्यप्रदं, गङ्गे त्वां नमामि सदा वन्दे सदा॥

Transliteration

Papa-vinashini pavanam pavanam, Bhuti-pradam bhiti-haram shanti-dayini. Sarva-papa-prashamanam sarva-punya-pradam, Gange tvam namami sada vande sada.

Meaning / Translation

Destroyer of sins, most purifying, bestower of prosperity, remover of fear, and giver of peace. O Ganga, I always bow to you, I always worship you.

गङ्गे च यः स्मरेत् नित्यं तस्य मोक्षं प्रपद्यते। तस्य न द्वेषो न च शोकः न च संसारे विरक्तिः॥

Transliteration

Gange cha yah smaret nityam tasya moksham prapadyate. Tasya na dwesho na cha shokah na cha samsare viraktih.

Meaning / Translation

He who constantly remembers Mother Ganga attains ultimate liberation. For such a person, there is neither hatred nor sorrow, nor the need to flee from the world due to detachment.
