Preparation Steps

1Bathe and wear clean clothes (preferably white or yellow).

4Set up the deity image or picture of Lord Vishnu with tulsi garland.
5Light the ghee lamp and incense; ring the bell to invoke auspiciousness.
6Perform achamana (sipping water with mantras) and pranayama.
7Offer tulsi leaves and flowers to the Lord while chanting Vishnu mantras.
8Invoke Sage Narada and Veda Vyasa for blessings on the study.
9Set a sankalpa (intention) for the reading session (e.g., 'For purification of heart and growth in bhakti').
10Begin with a prayer to Ganesha and the guru-parampara.

Steps

1Sit facing east or north on the prepared asana.
2Recite the opening mangalacharana verses of the Narada Purana (e.g., 'Om namo bhagavate vasudevaya').
3Read one chapter (adhyaya) or a set number of verses daily, with attention and reverence.
4Pause after each section to reflect on the meaning; write notes if helpful.
5Chant the key bhakti mantras (see mantras section) at the end of the reading.
6Offer the merit (punya) of the study to the Lord and for the welfare of all beings.
7Conclude with the Narada Purana phala-shruti (verses describing the fruit of reading).
8Perform aarti to the deity with camphor or ghee lamp.
9Distribute prasadam (offered food/tulsi water) to family members.
10Maintain a consistent schedule — same time, same place — for maximum benefit.
