Preparation Steps

1. 1Identify the North-East (Ishan Kona), East, or North sector of your home for setting up the Pooja Room.
2. 2Thoroughly clean and mop the selected area with water mixed with a small amount of Gangajal and rock salt to dispel residual negative energy.
3. 3Ensure proper ventilation and lighting so that natural morning sunlight can enter the prayer area.
4. 4Paint or decorate the room using auspicious colors such as light yellow, white, light blue, or soft orange.
5. 5Place a raised wooden or marble altar (Sinhasan) along the eastern or northern wall so deities face West or South (allowing the devotee to face East or North while praying).
6. 6Purify all copper, brass, and silver puja items using lemon, pitambari, or fresh water, and spread a clean red or yellow cloth over the altar base.

Step-by-Step Vidhi

1. 11. Shuddhi & Sankalpa: Take a purification bath, wear clean traditional attire, sit on an asana (prayer mat), and make a formal Sankalpa (intention) for establishing the holy space.
2. 22. Kalash Sthapana: Fill a copper or brass Kalash with water, add a drop of Gangajal, akshata, a coin, and betel nut. Place mango leaves in the neck and top it with a coconut wrapped in red cloth.
3. 33. Devata Avahan: Carefully place the idols/pictures of Lord Ganesha, your Kula Devata, and Ishta Devata on the cloth-covered platform. Offer invocation prayers to invoke divine presence into the space.
4. 44. Abhishekam / Snana: Gently clean murtis with Gangajal or perform a brief symbolic Panchamrit Abhishekam (if metal murtis are used), followed by wiping them dry with a clean cloth.
5. 55. Tilak & Alankara: Apply Chandan and Kumkum to the murtis, adorn them with fresh flower garlands, and place Tulsi leaves at the feet of Lord Vishnu/Krishna or Bilva leaves for Lord Shiva.

7. 77. Naivedya & Aarti: Offer fresh fruits, sweets, and water as Naivedyam. Ring the bell with the left hand while waving the Aarti lamp clockwise with the right hand, singing devotional hymns.
8. 88. Kshama Prarthana: Conclude with a prayer seeking forgiveness for any unintended procedural errors, distributing the blessed Prasad to family members.
