Radha Raman Temple

Radha Raman is one of the seven principal thakur deities of Vrindavan and a treasured centre of Gaudiya (Chaitanya) Vaishnavism. Its self-manifested deity and continuously burning sacred fire are held to be living proofs of divine grace. The temple preserves the pure devotional traditions of the Goswamis who systematised Krishna bhakti. It is a place of deep, refined devotion in the heart of Braj.

The deity of Radha Raman ('the one who delights Radha') is among the few swayambhu (self-manifested) forms of Krishna in Vrindavan, said to have emerged from a Shaligram Shila worshipped by the saint Gopal Bhatta Goswami, one of the six Goswamis of the Chaitanya tradition. Uniquely, there is no separate image of Radha; a crown or cloth placed beside Krishna represents her presence. The akhand jyoti — a sacred fire kindled at the deity's appearance in 1542 — has been kept continuously burning ever since. The temple is renowned for its refined worship, exquisite deity dressing and the scholarly Goswami lineage that serves it.
