Alopi Devi is revered as one of the Shakti Peethas associated with the last remnant of Sati's form, worshipped in formless presence rather than idol. Its location beside the Triveni Sangam, the holiest of confluences, magnifies its sanctity enormously. Pilgrims to the Kumbh and Magh Melas hold darshan here as an essential part of their pilgrimage.
परिचय
The Alopi Devi temple near the Sangam in Prayagraj is unusual among all Devi shrines: the sanctum holds no image of the goddess, but a decorated wooden palanquin or cradle (doli) suspended above a sacred square, worshipped as the seat of the Devi. Its name derives from 'alop' (disappeared), reflecting the belief that the final portion of Sati's body vanished here, leaving only her invisible presence. The temple draws large crowds during Navratri and through the Magh Mela and Kumbh, when millions gather at the nearby confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati.
