Mansa Devi, the goddess who fulfils the desires of the mind (mansa), is one of the most important deities of Haridwar and a celebrated Siddh Peetha (a place of attained spiritual power). Haridwar itself is one of the seven Moksha Puris and a gateway (Har-ki-dwar) to the divine. The thread-tying tradition embodies the loving bond between the mother and her devotees. The temple is a key stop on the Haridwar pilgrimage, especially during Navratri and the Kumbh Mela.
The Mansa Devi temple crowns the Bilwa Parvat above Haridwar and is reached by a cable-car (ropeway) or a steep climb, rewarding pilgrims with panoramic views of the sacred city and the sweeping Ganga. The goddess, believed to have emerged from the mind of Lord Shiva, is worshipped for the fulfilment of heartfelt wishes. Devotees tie sacred threads on a wish-tree within the complex, returning to untie them once their prayers are answered. Together with the Chandi Devi and Maya Devi temples, it forms the trio of Siddh Peethas that define Haridwar's spiritual landscape.
