Sanwaliya Seth Temple

Sanwaliya Seth is beloved as the merciful Krishna who takes a personal interest in the worldly wellbeing of his devotees, making the temple a place of both bhakti and heartfelt petition. Its enormous hundi collections reflect the deep faith of the trading communities of the region. Janmashtami and Ekadashis are celebrated with great fervour.

The Sanwaliya Ji temple complex at Mandphia enshrines a striking dark idol of Krishna (Sanwaliya, 'the dusky one') that, according to tradition, was unearthed from the ground in the 19th century. The temple has grown into one of the busiest pilgrimage centres of southern Rajasthan, famed for the belief that Sanwaliya Seth is a 'business partner' who blesses the trade and prosperity of his devotees — many pledge a share of their profits to his hundi. The complex is richly decorated with white marble and intricate carving, and Sunday and Ekadashi darshans draw immense crowds from Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
