Significance

The temple stands at the site revered for millennia as the janmabhoomi (birthplace) of Lord Rama, the maryada purushottam — the ideal of dharma and virtue. Its construction, following the Supreme Court verdict of 2019, marked the culmination of one of the longest and most emotive movements in Indian history. For countless devotees it fulfils a deeply held aspiration and reaffirms Ayodhya as one of the seven Moksha Puris. It has swiftly become one of the most visited pilgrimage destinations in the world.

About

Rising in Ayodhya on the banks of the Sarayu, the Ram Mandir is built in the traditional Nagara style from Bansi Paharpur sandstone, using interlocking stone without steel or iron so as to endure for millennia. Its consecration (Pran Pratishtha) on 22 January 2024 installed the deity Ram Lalla, the infant Rama, in the sanctum, watched by the entire nation. The multi-storeyed temple features intricately carved pillars, halls (mandapas) and depictions of scenes from the Ramayana, and is designed so that sunlight illuminates the deity's forehead each Ram Navami. The vast complex includes shrines, galleries and pilgrim facilities set within landscaped grounds.
