महत्व

Kamakshi is counted among the three supreme Shakti kshetras alongside Madurai's Meenakshi and Varanasi's Vishalakshi. The installation of the Sri Chakra links the temple to the profound Sri Vidya tradition of goddess worship. Kanchipuram itself is one of the seven Moksha Puris that grant liberation. Devotees revere Kamakshi as the compassionate mother who fulfils the deepest prayers of her children.

परिचय

The Kamakshi Amman temple honours the goddess Kamakshi, a serene and benevolent form of Parvati seated in a meditative posture with a sugarcane bow and flowers. Unusually, Kanchipuram — a city otherwise full of temples — has this as its only major goddess shrine, reflecting the belief that all the region's Shakti is concentrated here. Adi Shankaracharya is traditionally credited with establishing the Sri Chakra before the deity and founding the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham associated with the temple. The golden-roofed sanctum and the temple tank lend it a calm, radiant grandeur.
