महत्व

Pavagadh is counted among the Shakti Peethas, believed to mark where the toe of Sati fell, making it one of Gujarat's foremost Devi shrines. The goddess Mahakali is worshipped as the fierce protective Mother, and the hill draws pilgrims year-round and especially during Navratri, when Gujarat's devotion to the Devi is at its height. Its setting within a World Heritage park unites living faith with layered history.

परिचय

The Kalika Mata temple crowns the summit of Pavagadh hill at about 800 metres, reached by a long climb or a ropeway, and forms part of the Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site rich in medieval monuments. The sanctum enshrines the goddess Mahakali along with images of Bahuchara and Kali. The shrine was recently restored and re-crowned with a golden spire and flag after centuries. Set amid ancient forts, stepwells and mosques, the pilgrimage combines intense Shakti devotion with a spectacular hilltop setting and panoramic views of the surrounding plains.
